2012 BBQ & Ride

The Christmas Riverboat Association is holding it's annual barbecue on March 31, 2012 that will include a benefit poker run for local resident Ed King.  The BBQ and meeting place for the poker run will be located just under the highway 50 bridge on the St. Johns River. Thanks to a local FFA young lady, we'll be cooking up a 240 lb. hog that was purchased with club funds at the recent Central Florida Fair in Orlando, Florida.

This is a family get together and everyone is welcome so bring the kids too. The BBQ will start @ 4:00PM and the Ed King Poker Run Benefit @ 6:00PM. Poker hands will be $10.00 apiece.

Community Flashback

The St. Johns River was an integral part of the lives of the Christmas pioneer families.  Community Flashback
They would take their families and camp at the river for days, weeks or even a month or more hunting, fishing and trapping for food and to sell the hides.  They cooked over an open fire and lived in a tent during their stay at the river.  This was just a part of the way of life for the early residents of Christmas.  The St. John's River provided food, a way of making a living, and a means of receiving needed supplies.
